Rampaging Walmart gunman who shot dozens with AK-47 caught on store CCTV

This is the first image of a gunman who shot dead at least 15 people at a Walmart shopping centre today.

The shooter, armed with an AK-47, is thought to have opened fire in the car park in El Paso, Texas, before entering the business and firing at shoppers.

CCTV images show a man wearing a black top and khaki trousers armed with an automatic weapon which looks very similar to an AK-47 assault rifle.

According to NBC, 19 people have been killed and more than 40 injured. At least 15 fatalities have been confirmed by authorities.

One suspect, 21-year-old Patrick Crusius, is in custody, El Paso Police have confirmed.

Distressing CCTV footage posted to social media showed a man gunning people down in a Walmart car park in El Paso before entering the store.

He could be seen wearing ear defenders or headphones and clutching a semi-automatic assault rifle.

Law enforcement sources told The Washington Examiner the attacker "shot and killed locals that were fundraising outside the Walmart selling water".

Children and babies are reported to be among the injured.

CCTV showed people hiding underneath tables at a McDonald’s inside the Walmart during the shooting.

El Paso is on the border with Mexico and the state of New Mexico.

Leslie Diaz, 25, works at the Walmart.

She told the El Paso Times she was helping customers at the front of the store in the checkout when she heard multiple large “pops” getting closer and louder.

She said she looked at her colleagues, grabbed some customers and led them out of the store as shoppers began running and screaming toward the exit.

Walmart tweeted: "We're in shock over the tragic events at Cielo Vista Mall in El Paso.

"We’re praying for the victims, the community & our associates, as well as the first responders.

"We’re working closely with law enforcement & will update as appropriate."
