Firefighter, 35, killed after two boats collide at marina in Wales

A firefighter has been killed after two boats collided at a marina in Wales.

The 35-year-old man died after two boats crashed in the waterway at Neyland Marina in Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, at around 11.30am on Tuesday.

Police, helicopters and ambulances were on the scene in minutes and emergency workers recovered the man’s body from the water.

Dyfed Powys Police said the unnamed firefighter worked for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

A police spokesman said: “Specialist teams from both the fire and rescue service and police were on scene supporting witnesses.

“We have informed the Marine Accident Investigation Board and will be working with them to establish what happened here today.

“Our thoughts go out to the family of the deceased and to his colleagues at Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service.”

The incident reportedly happened during a training exercise, however this has not been confirmed by police.

A spokesman for the marina said: “The Fire Brigade were carrying out a training exercise on the water when something went wrong.

“The conditions were good at the time and it’s a very safe stretch of water.

“The two inflatable boats involved have been towed ashore to be examined.”
