M25 traffic latest: M25 CLOSED in van bursts into flames – EIGHT MILES of queues

All lanes have been stopped and traffic is stationary due to the fire on the M25 anticlockwise after Junction 25 of the A10 Great Cambridge Road (Enfield). Fire crews are on the scene tackling the blaze that is on the hard shoulder. But all traffic has come to a standstill whilst emergency services respond to the incident that has caused huge delays in the area.

Congestion is steadily building, with around eight miles of queues, with traffic all the way back to Junction 27 of the M11.

The incident was reported to emergency services at 6.40am this morning, with motorists stopped 10 minutes later at 6.50am.

It is not yet clear how long traffic will be stationary in the area, with motorists expecting to be impacted by major delays on their morning rush hour commute.

They have been warned to allow additional time before travelling and to take an alternative route where possible.

Highways England has warned drivers to expect delays of at least 30 minutes over several miles of road.

The statement says: “The M25 currently has delays of at least 30 minutes between its junctions of 27 (M11) and 25 (Cheshunt), covering several miles of the anti-clockwise carriageway.

“The delays are due to a vehicle fire with all traffic stopped and Highways England has resources deployed working hard to restore normal conditions as soon as possible.

“For traffic approaching the delays locally, you are advised to expect disruption with extra journey time and you may wish re-route or delay your journey.

“If travelling towards this area from much farther afield, you may wish to change your strategic route, allow extra travel time and follow guidance from our on-road variable message signs and media.”

Highways England has since added traffic travelling through Junction 25 anti-clockwise has been released, but lane one remains closed.

This is a breaking story. More to follow.
