UK winner claims £115m EuroMillions jackpot

The lucky winner will start 2019 considerably wealthier after scooping the £114,969,755.70 prize.

Andy Carter, senior winners’ adviser at The National Lottery, said: “Imagine kicking off the new year with an extra £114M to your name.

“What an amazing win and year ahead for one lucky UK ticket-holder. This win ranks at number four in the list of the biggest ever National Lottery winners and we look forward to helping them begin to enjoy their win.”

The money will be paid out at a ticket validation appointment. It is then up to the winner to decide whether they want to go public with their news.

Only if they decide to go public will the lottery operator disclose whether the winner is an individual or a syndicate, or where the ticket was bought.

Ten other players have also won £1m each in the New Year’s Day draw.

“All players are urged to check their tickets to see if they are a big winner and can turn 2019 into one long celebration,” added Mr Carter.

The biggest UK lottery winners to date are Colin and Chris Weir, who took home more than £161m in 2011.

Adrian and Gillian Bayford scooped more than £148m in 2012, while the biggest winner of 2018 was an anonymous ticket-holder who took home £121m.

In November last year, builder Andrew Clark won a £76m lottery jackpot after giving in to his family, who spent six weeks urging him to check his ticket.

With £115m in their pocket, the latest winner will be contemplating what to spend the jackpot on.

The prize money could buy you 319 Rolls Royce Phantom VIIIs, 153,538 iPhone XRs, or 1,939 nights in the Royal Penthouse Suite at Geneva’s Hotel President Wilson – the most expensive hotel suite in the world at £59,279 per night.
