AT least four police officers have been gunned down in an "active shooter" attack in Philadelphia tonight.
Local reports say a gunman opened fire at around 4:30pm local time (9:30pm BST) at a house in the Tioga-Nicetown district.
A massive police presence has been deployed and witnesses have reported seeing cops dive for cover from a hail of bullets.
The injured officers have been rushed to hospital suffering non-life-threatening wounds, CBS3 reports.
A man has reportedly been taken into custody – although his role in the shooting spree was not immediately clear.
Local media says police are still under fire from at least one gunman inside the address.
Police were initially called to the scene responding to alleged drug-related activities, Philadelphia Police Capt Sekou Kinebrew said.
Srgt Eric Gripp tweeted: "Shooting situation ACTIVE and ONGOING on 3700 15th St. Avoid Area.
"Several PPD Officers have been injured. Updates will be provided as received."
The nearby Temple University Health Sciences Center Campus – where the injured are being treated – has been put on lockdown.
A fifth injury reported earlier was caused by a police crash at the scene and was not a gunshot wound, police confirmed.
