World’s largest cannabis firms arrive in UK to plan legal weed bonanza

The prestigious Cannabis Europa London, aimed at “building Europe’s medical cannabis industry,” kicked off in the capital today, just months after the government relaxed rules on medical weed products like CBD.

In November 2018, THC products such as CBD were legalised and are now sold in shops all over the UK, with big US, Canadian, and Dutch firms shipping the products to Britain.

Now there is a growing expectation within the industry that rules around recreational weed will also be relaxed, The Telegraph has learnt, which the big weed firms are now planning for the change.

For example, Wayland Group, a Canadian giant that sells super-strength cannabis advertised as “not for the weak”, is laying down roots in the UK.

The company said it would have an “accelerated focus on global expansion and product development to include a new line of skincare and sleep solution products infused with CBD.”

Canopy Growth, one of the world’s leading cannabis firms, also owns a firm based in Oxford that encourages doctors to prescribe medicinal cannabis products to their patients.

Back in Canada, Canopy Growth flogs fashionably-branded tubs of cannabis, which users smoke to get high, similar to a vape pen.
