At least six people are reported to have died and 10 people were injured after a liquid nitrogen leak at a chicken freezing plant. The tragedy happened at the Prime Pak Foods factory in Atlanta, Georgia, on Thursday afternoon. Five people died at the plant, with one succumbing to their injuries after being taken to hospital.
Nine other victims remain in hospital. Three remain critically ill, with five reported to be in a fair condition. The ninth person was still en route to hospital when police gave a press conference after the incident on Thursday afternoon.
Around 130 other people who worked at Prime Pak were taken to a nearby church after the factory was evacuated by emergency services, with nine people reportedly taken to hospital.
Liquid nitrogen is commonly used in the food industry to quickly freeze fresh food and preserve its nutrients.
