Body of opera worker washes ashore in the Hamptons near celebrities' homes

A half-naked body identified as an opera worker washed up in the upscale Hamptons near the homes of numerous celebrities.

Two kayakers saw the body of Keith Viagas, 63, facedown on the Sag Harbor Cove shoreline on Monday morning.

‘He was nude apart from a black shirt around his neck, black socks or swim booties on,’ a witness told the New York Post.

‘It was a ghastly sight to stumble across on a beautiful August summer morning.’

Viagas worked at the Opera Orchestra of New York and formerly served as director of artistic planning at the New York City Opera, according to his Facebook page. He also worked at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and studied music theory and composition at The Julliard School and went to Stony Brook University.

He lived in Sag Harbor and was from Franklin Square, his profile states.

‘He’s a long-term resident but he was not reported missing because he would commonly go away for a couple of days then return,’ Southampton Police Lt Susan Ralph told the Post.

Police said they do not suspect foul play was involved.

The Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s office has yet to determine the cause of his death.

Viagas’ body was found by a village with the homes of the rich and famous, including The View co-host Joy Behar’s $7.13million residence, according to The Post. Sag Harbor is also home or a vacation spot for Real Housewives actresses Jill Zarin and Luann de Lesseps, singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett and former TV personality Matt Lauer.

Other celebrities with a connection to Sag Harbor include actor Richard Gere, singer Billy Joel and artists Eric Fischl and April Gornik. Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian in 2014 filmed Kourtney & Khloe Take the Hamptons in an area mansion that was later rented by Rihanna.
