CCTV shows the moment a brazen gang stole millions of pounds of jewellery from a store in the Bronx.
In the surveillance video, four masked thieves are seen entering Rocco’s Jewellery before smashing the cabinets with hammers and stealing valuables in broad daylight.
The raiders managed to take £1.65m (£2m) worth of items from the store just after 2.30pm on Friday before fleeing, according to estimates from the store reported by New York Daily News.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) have now launched an appeal to find the criminal gang which took just 45 seconds to steal the massive haul.
The jewellery store’s staff had buzzed in a man in a white t-shirt who then held the door open for his accomplices.
They added a second man grabbed his pocket indicating he had a gun but never actually showed one during the robbery.
Witnesses said they thought the loud banging was gunshots at first, with one man telling CBS 2: ‘They came in, boom, boom, boom, in and out, gone.’
The robbery was similar to two others that occurred in New York City in May, with police believing the gang could be responsible for as many as 16 more thefts.
The offences date back to February 25 and occurred in the Bronx and Queens areas.
Police have offered a £2,900 ($3,500) reward for information that results in any arrests related to the burglary.
The suspects are all described as black men, in their 20s and having a slim build.
The NYPD said in a statement: ‘Once inside the store, the three individuals used a hammer to smash open the display cases and removed a large amount of high-end diamond jewellery.
‘The jewellery was placed into bags being carried by the individuals, who fled the location on foot heading southbound on Webster Avenue.’
No injuries were reported.
