Mother names and shames son, 10, after he was filmed terrorizing nursing home

An outraged mother has named and shamed her own 10 year-old son after she saw a clip of him terrorizing elderly people at their care home.

Kiara Cunningham watched in horror as son Ja’Shawn Watson appeared on a local news program sneaking into the home in Chicago with friends, before frightening its residents and stealing a fire extinguisher.

The mom – who works in security – instantly recognized Ja’Shawn despite his face being blurred out in security footage, and marched him back to the home to apologize.

She told CBS Chicago: ‘That’s my son. My son is on the news, and I replayed it again to make sure that I was seeing what I was seeing. I knew my child. I know his body and the way he walks from anywhere.’

‘I told him: “You’re going to go in there and apologize, because you guys terrified those people. That could have been your grandmother; that could have been me in there, you know?” and I said, “That’s something you don’t do.”‘

Ja’Shawn was also filmed groveling to property manager Arletha Patterson Smith, saying: ‘I’m sorry for coming into y’all place, to take your stuff.’

The youngster said he felt ‘sad’ about the anguish he caused his mother. Smith said she ‘humbly’ accepted the apology, which will also see Ja’Shawn pick up leaves around the building and help tidy it up for the next few weeks.

She added: ‘To come here and see them both, I have nothing but love and respect for her.’

Ja’Shawn has also been partnered with a mentor from a local program aimed at helping boys and young men stay out of trouble.
