Mother told husband she'd kill their 5 kids if he didn't come home – then did it

A mother told her husband she would kill their five children if he didn’t start working closer to home – then followed through on the threat, and killed herself.

Oreanna Myers, 25, texted husband Brian Bumgarner before the December 2020 murder-suicide saying: ‘You’ll have nothing to come back to but to corpse. No one cares why should I?

‘Money will come and go, once I go there’s no replacing me. I beg and cry for help but never get it. It’s my mental health that needs tending to–help me– I do not care anymore.’

She then shot stepchildren Shawn Bumgarner, 7 and Riley Bumgarner, 6, at their home in Williamsburg, Virginia. Also murdered with a shotgun were Myers’ own children Kian Myers, 4, Arikyle Myers, 3 and one year-old Haiken Myers.

After the killing spree, Myers set the family’s home on fire with the children’s bodies inside, then went outside and shot herself dead. Myers was upset that Bumgarner was staying with relatives during the week because of transportation issues that made it too difficult for him to travel to work from home.

Sharing the tragic sequence of events at a press conference on Thursday, Greenbrier County Sheriff Bruce Sloan said Bumgarner’s absence had been ‘a tremendous source of contention’ between he and his late wife.

He said his investigators had concluded that this had been what triggered the murder suicide.

Myers also left a suicide note after killing herself, which read: ‘This is no one’s fault but my own. My demons won over me. Sorry, I wasn’t strong enough.’

After carrying out the massacre and setting her home on fire, she put three notes into a plastic bag and taped it to a side view mirror on a car, with phone numbers for relatives, a confession of her crimes, as well as her will.

One, titled ‘To Whomever Finds This First’ said: ‘To whomever finds this first. You’ll need to call Brian Brian Bumgarner. He is husband and father. You’ll need to call Raven, for she is mother of Shaun and Riley.

‘If someone would please call my mother. Tell her I’m sorry, this is no one’s fault but my own. My demons won over me and there’s no going back. So sorry I wasn’t strong enough. Thank you. XOXO, OAM.’

The second, titled ‘My Confession,’ read: ‘I had shot all of the boys in the head. I had set house on fire. I had shot myself in the head. I’m sorry. Mental health is serious. I hope one day someone will help others like me.

‘Mental health is not to joke about or taken lightly. When someone begs, pleads, cries out for help, please help them. You just might save a life or more lives. Thank you, OAM.’ It was signed with a bloodied fingerprint.

Details of Myers’ will were not shared by the press coherence – although the note she left her late husband was also shared, WVMetroNews reported.

It read: ‘XOXO. I’m so sorry Brian. I was not strong enough for you or this family. My head is so (expletive). I’m sorry for my evil crime. I was not strong enough to fight these demons, Snap. Crunch, Boom.

‘So depressed. Heart numb. Soul completely shattered. I am sorry I failed you. I am sorry I failed our handsome boys. I am so sorry I was not strong enough. OAM’
