The FBI says it is aware of ‘threats to harm’ president-elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris ahead of the pair’s inauguration on January 20.
A leaked internal bulletin from the FBI references ‘various threats’ and says that investigators are tracking the reports closely.
The FBI has warned of an ‘uprising’ if Donald Trump is removed from office early. They claim that armed protests are being planned in all 50 US states leading up to president-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration in eight days time.
Now, the bureau is preparing for more violence and has said that investigators are tracking reports of threats made against Biden and Kamala Harris, reports CNN.
The FBI bulletin said: ‘…various threats to harm President-elect Biden ahead of the presidential inauguration.
‘Additional reports indicate threats against VP-elect Harris and Speaker Pelosi.’
Meanwhile, Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser has urged Americans to avoid the city during Biden’s inauguration next week over fears of yet more violence.
She has asked people to participate virtually and has admitted she is ‘scared for our democracy’.
Speaking at a news conference, Democrat, Bowser, said: ‘If I’m scared of anything, it’s for our democracy, because we have very extreme factions in our country that are armed and dangerous.
‘Trumpism won’t die on January 20.’
The National Guard has said it plans to have up to 15,000 troops available for deployment to Washington for the inauguration.
The concerns over Biden and Harris’s safety come as Democrats steam ahead with plans to impeach President Trump, charging him with ‘incitement of insurrection’.
