A married gave his car keys to robbers who ambushed him and demanded them, only for the carjackers to shoot him dead anyway. Shuai Guan, 33, was checking the mail outside his home in Chicago on Monday evening when he was approached by his killers.
The group pulled up alongside Guan in two stolen cars, and demanded the keys to his white Jeep SUV.
Guan, who was married with a four year-old child, complied with the request, and began to back away, but the carjackers fired a single shot at him and killed him. His stricken wife Hongu Bai said afterwards: ‘I want my husband back. It’s the worst day of my life.’
Bai was out when Guan was murdered. Her father drove past her home, saw police cars and tape around Guan’s Jeep, and called his daughter to tell her to come home.
After coming back, Guan approached a police officer who was outside her house. She said: ‘“I just asked him, Please tell me he’s alive, he’s still alive,” they say, “Sorry.” They say, “Sorry.”
‘And they wouldn’t let me see him. I don’t touch him.’
Bai told CBS Chicago her husband’s killers didn’t take his car because they were unable to drive it.
No arrests have been made, with police continuing to hunt for Guan’s killers. Chicago has seen a dramatic increase in carjackings this year.
The Windy City has seen 1,400 so-far this year, compared to 694 recorded across the entirety of 2019.
