BEIJING – Plausibly to China’s chagrin, the heads of state of some Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries did not grace a virtual summit – known as 17+1 – hosted by President Xi Jinping last week.
A senior Chinese official blamed the no-show on “outside interference”, but stopped short of singling out the United States.
