National Western Stock Show 2021 canceled

Denver will not have its annual National Western Stock Show in 2021 due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, National Western Complex officials said Monday in a press release.

Instead, the stock show, which would have been in its 115th year, will resume January 2022, the release said.

“The COVID-19 pandemic does not allow for the Stock Show to host the annual event and comply with the health and safety guidelines that are necessary to protect Coloradans and help stop the spread,” the release said. “More importantly, the projected environment through to the end of the year is too uncertain and therefore not reassuring enough to allow a traditional Stock Show to take place without potentially compromising the health and safety of exhibitors, visitors, and the public at large.”

The National Western Stock Show, held in north Denver, has been an annual tradition since 1906.

Denver City Councilwoman Amanda Sawyer heard the news Monday morning and said the postponement is unfortunate, though a responsible decision.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
