Plumes of smoke can be seen billowing out from Northfield Academy after a fire was reported shortly before 1.45pm.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue service said four pumps and a height vehicle have been sent to Northfield Academy after it received a call from the school.

Local politician Guy Ingerson was nearby when the fire erupted, and posted a video of the smoke pouring out from the building on his Twitter account.

He wrote: “Just heard an explosion near or at Northfield Academy. Really worried about the people there.”

Another social media user thought the fire was coming from NHS Grampian hospital, which is located a short distance from the school.

But a spokesperson for the hospital confirmed the fire was located at the school.
