Paul Burrell discusses Prince Harry at King Charles’ coronation
Prince Archie Harrison was “stripped of the chance” to be with his family as he stayed in California with Meghan Markle, a royal expert has told Express.co.uk.
Prince Harry travelled alone to the Coronation of King Charles, playing a background role throughout the ceremony.
However, the Duke made it home in time to tuck Archie into bed after a flying 28-hour visit to the UK. The young prince was celebrating his fourth birthday on the same day as the Coronation – Saturday, May 6.
Royal commentator Hilary Fordwich believes it’s a “pity” that Archie not with his cousins – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis – and grandfather Charles on Saturday.
She told Express.co.uk: “Meghan Markle was purportedly watching this from California. It’s a great pity that Archie wasn’t there as King Charles, then Prince Charles, was four when his mother was crowned in 1953, watching from the balcony by the side of The Queen Mother.
“He remembers his ‘Mummy’ practising with the almost 5lb crown in the bathroom whilst he was in the bath. What will Archie’s memory be? How sad to strip him of the chance to be with his grandfather and extended family.
“He’s a similar age to Prince Louis, what great cousins they could have been.”
Relations between the Sussexes and the royals have been tense for the last few years.

New data suggests Harry and Meghan’s plot to ‘bring down’ Firm failed [ROYAL]
Harry’s memoir and the Sussexes’s Netflix docuseries, both released in the last six months, included high-profile criticism of the Firm.
Ms Fordwich adds that Meghan’s absence from the Coronation had the potential to help Harry build bridges with his family.
However, she says the Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Kate, are in a less forgiving mood than the King.
She said: “Meghan Markle’s absence at the Coronation was thought by many to perhaps have helped with some sort of reconciliation, mainly since the Prince and Princess of Wales are the ones actually awaiting some acknowledgment regarding the hurt Harry caused.
“While King Charles regrets the times he wasn’t with his son growing up and still wants to forgive his ‘darling boy’, it’s not quite so on in the Wales camp.”
Archie’s birthday party was has been described as a low-key event, with Meghan baking a lemon cake using fruit from her garden.
Meanwhile, King Charles raised a toast to Archie at a family celebration in Buckingham Palace after his Coronation.
The monarch is said to have toasted “those that weren’t there” in a sweet moment.
