Details about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s life were recently laid out in a biography called Finding Freedom, written by journalists Carolyn Durand and Omid Scobie. The book’s release in August saw a number of revelations come to light, including the fact Meghan and Harry new the gender of Archie before his birth in May 2019, and had even chosen his name at the time.
But, Finding Freedom also revealed Meghan and Harry very nearly opted for another name for their son.
The authors of the book wrote that the couple “wanted something traditional, a name that was powerful even without a title in front of it”.
This brought them to consider the name Archibald fore their son.
However, they quickly decided against it before choosing to go ahead with naming him Archie.
A friend of the couple told Mr Scobie and Ms Durant: “They thought about Archibald for all of one second… he was always going to be Little Archie.”
The youngster was born at the Portland Hospital in London on May 6, 2019, and made his public debut to the world just two days later in Windsor Castle.
The name Archie is said to hold special significance for the couple.
It means strength and bravery and is behind the inspiration for Harry and Meghan’s non-profit organisation, Archewell.
Earlier this year, the duo spoke up about the backstory for their new venture, and where the idea came from.
Harry and Meghan told The Telegraph: “Before SussexRoyal came the idea of ‘Arche’ – the Greek word meaning ‘source of action’.
“We connected to this concept for the charitable organisation we hoped to build one day, and it became the inspiration for our son’s name.
“To do something of meaning, to do something that matters.”

The couple added: “Archewell is a name that combines an ancient word for strength and action, and another that evokes the deep resources we each must draw upon.
“We look forward to launching Archewell when the time is right.”
Harry, Meghan and Archie now live in Montecito, an A-list area of Santa Barbara, California.
Despite working from home amid the coronavirus pandemic, like the rest of the world, Meghan and Harry have kept in touch with the world through various video calls and meetings.
Speaking to the Rugby League via Zoom call, Prince Harry let slip a cute nickname he has for baby Archie.
Opening up about being a father, Harry said “little man” Archie was his and Meghan’s “number one priority”.
Prince Harry added that he was grateful to be living in a house with outdoor space.
He said: “I am just unbelievably fortunate and grateful to have outdoor space and see my son be able to be outside, because I know so many people just haven’t had that opportunity in the last five months.”
