Bomb squad rush to hospital after reports of 'explosion and car on fire'

A bomb squad has reportedly been called to a hospital after unconfirmed reports of an explosion in Liverpool.

There have been reports of loud bangs and a car is said to be on fire, although these details have not been confirmed by police.

Merseyside Police said there has been an ‘incident’ outside Liverpool Women’s Hospital.

A spokeswoman for the force said on Sunday: ‘We can confirm that an incident occurred at around 11am today outside Liverpool Women’s Hospital.

‘A cordon around the affected area has been established and a number of surrounding roads have been closed.

‘Emergency services are currently at the scene assessing the situation.’
