A 13-year-old boy has died in hospital after being hit by a car while crossing a road with his family on Easter Sunday.
The teenager was struck by a black Volkswagen Polo in Chester Road, Erdington, Birmingham, just before 6.50pm, and passed away from his injuries not long after arriving at hospital for treatment.
The driver has been detained and remains in police custody, but has not been charged with an offence.
Detective Sergeant Alan Hands, from West Midlands Police’s collision investigations unit, said officers had been dispatched to the scene immediately and were still investigating.
“We are still trying to establish how this tragic incident has happened and anyone who has information and hasn’t yet spoken to an officer should call us on 101,” he said.
“This is a parent’s worst nightmare and it is impossible to imagine their grief, but specialist officers will be supporting them as our investigation continues.”
