Shopkeeper Fends Off Three Masked Youths in Coventry
CCTV footage shows how a brave shopkeeper fended off a gang of masked youths as one tried to leap the store’s counter.
Store owner Bilal Khan said his employee showed great courage when he scared away the three youths.
One of them was understood to have been armed with a knife, according to the police.
Footage shows three men approaching Mobile King on Cheveral Avenue in Radford, Coventry.
All three had their faces covered as they walked towards the shop on the busy road, reports Coventry Live.
After standing around for a short while, a member of the group attempts to leap over the counter.
He is stopped in his tracks, however, after the brave shopkeeper shouts to try to scare them away.
Bilal, 30, said: “Three lads came in, first of all, standing around for a bit and then one of them found the opportunity to jump over the counter and then as soon as he jumped over the worker scared them off.”
Walking towards the door, the three men shout “What?” and “Shut the f*** up” at the employee and continue to stand around until the shopkeeper grabs a cricket bat which causes them to eventually leave the store.
Speaking about the courage of his employee, Bilal said: “It was very brave of him. He was a bit shaken up at first but he was in the adrenaline and the rush of it, but now he seems to be all right. He is back at work again.”
A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We were called following an attempted robbery in Cheveral Avenue at around 2.50pm on Monday (March 27).
“Three masked people – one understood to be armed with a knife – entered a shop but fled without taking anything.
“No one was injured.
