Buckingham Palace announced the Queen Consort is pulling out of a series of engagements planned for February 14 in the West Midlands. The reason behind this cancellation, the Palace said, is that Camilla is “suffering from a seasonal illness”.

The engagements lined up for tomorrow will be rescheduled. The 75-year-old royal is reportedly hoping to be able to undertake them on Wednesday, February 15.

It is thought the Queen Consort is suffering from a bad cold.

Camilla was due to travel alone to the West Midlands on Tuesday to pay tribute to the 100th anniversary of the Elmhurst Ballet School in Birmingham.

As a keen ballet fan herself, the royal was meant to meet students, staff and alumni, hail the prestigious history of the school and learn more about the recent developments in ballet teaching it is spearheading.

Camilla became patron of the school in 2006, one year after her marriage to King Charles and receiving the title of Duchess of Cornwall.

In the midst of the coronavirus lockdown, Camilla revealed she took up the Silver Swan ballet workouts – a programme open to over-55s with the aim to keep the elderly active.

This trip to Birmingham was to be followed by a visit Southwater One Library in Telford, where Her Majesty would have thanked staff and volunteers for working on projects at the library.

She would have also met representatives from local outreach and voluntary groups to thank them for their great contribution to the community.

While in the town, Camilla would have also unveiled a stone for Telford Veterans’ Trail and a plaque to commemorate the visit.

Camilla is well-known for being a book lover and impassioned in her effort to improve literacy across all ages in the UK and abroad.

She is patron of several organisations with this aim – including Book Aid International, which she visited earlier this month, and the National Literacy Trust.

In early 2021, she also launched her very own book club via an Instagram account called the Reading Room.
