Royal Family tradition dictates that the senior royals will send out a Christmas card to wish recipients an enjoyable festive season. The official social media accounts of the Royal Family unveiled the Christmas card on Sunday.

The couple chose a picture taken of them by royal photographer Sam Hussein at the Braemar Games in September.

The event was a firm favourite of the Queen’s who only missed one of the gatherings in her 70-year reign which was the event on September 3, 2022.

The photograph of Charles and Camilla was taken at this gathering just days before Charles became King on September 8, when the Queen passed away at Balmoral.

The candid photo shows Camilla, 75, in a dark green ensemble smiling as she looks at Charles, 74, who is wearing a tweed suit.

The card reads: “Wishing you a very Happy Christmas and New Year”.

Royal fans took to social media to share their thoughts on the card and to wish the royals a merry Christmas as they celebrate the festive season without the Queen for the first time.

Instagram user @mawergreg14 commented: “Just a lovely choice. King Charles and Queen Camilla are doing an awesome job and have been doing it for many years now.

“Very proud of them. The Royal Family stands united and strong. They hold their heads high and get on with the job. So very proud of them.”

Another offered the couple strength during what will be a challenging time for the family.

They said: “May you all feel the comfort of the Holy Spirit. This is your first Christmas without our dear Queen Elizabeth, we know it will be sad at times but to be together for a few days will be a big source of love and strength.”

A Twitter user added: “Really lovely…Merry Christmas to them too…and a little rest together perhaps?”

King Charles has announced that he and Camilla will be keeping the royal tradition this year of gathering the family at Sandringham in Norfolk.

Among the invited guests will be the rest of the Queen’s children and their partners, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward.

One fan praised the Christmas card as a “beautiful choice” before adding: “Love how Her Majesty the Queen is looking at His Majesty the King. True love!”

@jess_n_1980 added: “An absolutely beautiful picture! More informal than statesmanlike. I love how The Queen Consort looks at the King. An equal team and companionship.”
