The performance took place right after the principal proclamation of the accession of Charles III was read out from the balcony of St James’s Palace.

The official headquarters of the Court of St James saw the Privy Council gather on Saturday morning to sign the document officially recognising the passage of powers from the late Queen Elizabeth II to her eldest son, King Charles III.

While many members of the public are still growing used to the longtime anthem God Save the Queen switching words to mark the change, the performance of the Palace’s trumpeters still sparked a joyous reaction from the large crowds assembled to watch the historic moment unfold.

BBC presenter Clive Myrie said: “As soon as the trumpeters came out a ‘Uhhhh’ went right through the crowd.”
