‘Democracy is up the spout’ – Brexit protester HITS OUT at Theresa May over exit delay

The UK had been due to leave the EU on March 29, but this has been delayed twice. Currently Britain is set to break with Brussels on October 31, unless Parliament approves Mrs May’s exit deal before this date. Supporters of the ‘Leave Means Leave’ campaign group have been protesting outside Parliament, demanding the 2016 ‘Leave’ vote is implemented.

Speaking to Express.co.uk one of the protestors, who had come down from Manchester, said: “It’s no longer between Remainers and Leavers, we’re fighting for democracy.

“These MPs have decided it’s all about them. We’ve been so dismayed.

“Democracy is up the spout, that’s what we’re fighting for.”

So far the House of Commons has rejected the Government’s EU exit agreement three times.

Mrs May initiated talks with the Labour opposition, in a bid to find a package that can pass Parliament.

However some Conservative MPs are calling on the Government to take Britain out of the EU immediately, in a so-called no-deal Brexit.

Speaking to Express.co.uk another of the demonstrators, who was in Parliament Square with a hand-held union jack, expressed her frustration with the process.

She said: “Anger is the main response, but we’re fired up now.

“I’ve taken the day off work and we’re ready to fight the next phase.

“I’ve never done this before, I’ve never protested before.

“It’s not about Conservatives, it’s not about Labour, it’s about democracy.”

The Government insists it plans to take Britain out of the EU by October 31, at the very latest.

Unless MPs pass Mrs May’s deal imminently the UK will have to take part in European Parliament elections on May 23.
