Disney sues Florida governor Ron DeSantis over theme parks district control

Walt Disney Co has sued Florida’s Republican governor and possible 2024 presidential candidate Ron DeSantis.

The entertainment company filed a lawsuit on Wednesday over DeSantis’ takeover of its theme park district in Orlando.

DeSantis carried out a ‘targeted campaign of government retaliation’ against Disney after the company opposed legislation dubbed Don’t Say Gay, or the Parental Rights in Education bill.

Disney asked a court to overturn the state’s efforts to control its theme parks. The company is fighting Florida for control of the Reedy Creek district, which includes its theme parks and properties.

The lawsuit was filed moments after a DeSantis-appointed Disney World oversight board voted to toss a deal that would have allowed the company to make decisions around theme park design and construction.

Disney accuses DeSantis of ‘weaponizing’ his power to politically publish the company.
