As this formal statement was posted outside Buckingham Palace, a double rainbow was photograph over the London landmark.

Journalist Andy Ngô commented that some at the scene “view it as a representation of the Queen and Prince Philip”.

Her Majesty described her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, who died in April last year, as her “strength and stay”.

The New York Times also reported that following the news of the Queen’s death, “after a hush, people broke into ‘God Save the Queen’”.
