Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall is married to Prince Charles. And while the two tied the knot in 2005, their relationship has always been shrouded in controversy due to Prince Charles’ extra-marital affair with the Duchess during his marriage to Diana, Princess of Wales. The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall married in a very low-key, private ceremony in a bid not to draw any negative attention to the relationship, especially from the millions of adoring Princess Diana fans in the world.

And now, it seems as though the Duchess of Cornwall has had her future position in the Royal Family downgraded by the monarch herself.

The Duchess of Cornwall was reportedly revamping her controversial public image in an effort to prove her worth as the future Queen Consort when Charles takes the throne.

But it appears as though the Duchess’ dreams of becoming Queen have been shattered after it was claimed the Queen had “demoted” her in the line of succession.

A palace insider has claimed the Queen downgraded Charles’s wife, so instead of being Queen Consort, she has no choice but to be only a Princess Consort.

The Royal insider told Globe: “Camilla is totally humiliated and furious at the snub.”

The royal source went on to say the bombshell move only adds more embarrassment to the fact that, despite being Charles’s wife, the Duchess has no senior standing or ranking in her own right.

They added: “As the wife of the heir to the throne, Camilla is the second-highest ranked woman in the royal family behind Queen Elizabeth – but only when accompanied by her husband.”

The source explained without Charles by her side, the Duchess of Cornwall drops significantly in ranking.

With the rumoured demotion said to be set in stone, the Duchess is reportedly “hell bent” on reversing the decision and ensure she can become Queen Consort one day.

The source claimed: “She’s ordered Charles to go to bat for her – but it’s clear Her Majesty has no intention of changing her mind.”

A spokesperson from Clarence House, Charles’ official residence, confirmed to Express.co.uk this year the Duchess won’t have the Queen Consort title despite being the Princess of Wales.

The spokesperson said: “The intention is for the Duchess to be known as Princess Consort when the Prince accedes to the throne.

“This was announced at the time of marriage and there has been absolutely no change at all.”

The Queen reportedly made the decision out of respect to the late Diana, Princess of Wales, who died in a car accident in Paris in 1997.

The Duchess is the Princess of Wales by marriage, but has never used the title as it was widely associated with Princess Diana.

Instead, she opted to fashion herself as the Duchess of Cornwall after Charles’ Duchy estate.

Although the Duchess has had somewhat of a rough time within the Royal Family and with the public, her appearances and work during the coronavirus pandemic have put her in people’s good books.

Royal author Phil Dampier said Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall have been very impressive throughout the pandemic, and “their popularity has sky rocketed” as a result.

Mr Dampier believes the Duchess’ recent actions have led to a shift in public opinion, and perhaps more openness about her future title.

He told New Idea: “A recent poll on the SilverSurfers website showed that while 10 years ago only seven percent of people thought Camilla should be Queen, now the figure is above 60 percent.”
