The Duke, who is the Queen’s cousin, and his wife, are looking for a cook to work at their Kensington Palace residence. The successful candidate will be responsible for the “planning and preparation” of meals for the royal couple.

They will also cook for family and guests of Prince Richard and Birgitte, as well as other staff members.

The job is being advertised on the Royal Household website and the salary is £25,500.

The cook will work Monday to Friday and the occasional weekend.

The advert says: “As the cook within the private Household of the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, you will be responsible for the planning and preparation of daily meals for Their Royal Highnesses and, when required, family and guests, including for a variety of formal occasions.

“In this role, you will also be responsible for preparing lunch for a small team of staff, and will also monitor and replenish food supplies and equipment for the household.

“As part of this small but busy team, you will also undertake certain housekeeping duties to support the running of the household, including maintaining the kitchen areas.”

The Duke and Duchess are looking for someone with a catering qualification.

The successful candidate will also have previous experience.

The cook will have an “exceptional eye for detail” and remain “calm under pressure”.

The advert says: “With excellent organisational and timekeeping skills, you are able to efficiently plan and prepare menus.

“Self-motivated and proactive, you will possess an enthusiastic attitude to work.

“You will enjoy working as part of a small team but can also work well independently and with initiative and confidence.

“With the ability to work calmly under pressure, you will be friendly and positive.”

People wishing to apply to the royal role have until September 15.
