Eamonn Holmes On Phillip Schofield Revealing To Him He Was GayEamonn Holmes on Phillip Schofield revealing to him he was gay
Eamonn Holmes has revealed his bemused three-word response when Phillip Schofield dramatically confessed to him that he was gay.
Speaking to Dan Wootton on GB News about the controversy that has engulfed the ITV flagship show This Morning, Holmes described how Schofield had fallen to his knees in a dressing room drama and sobbed that he was gay.
Schofield, 61, resigned from ITV last Friday and was dropped by his talent agency after admitting to an “unwise, but not illegal” affair with a young male colleague.
In the wake of his resignation, some former This Morning employees have come out to criticise both Schofield and the culture at the show.
Holmes, who left the show in December 2021, had previously claimed that “everything at ITV was geared towards making Schofield and co-presenter Holly Willoughby happy”.
In his GB News interview, Holmes explained how Schofield, whose relationship with his young lover took place while he was still married to his wife, Stephanie Lowe, the mother of their two daughters, cried as he admitted to him and Ruth Langsford that he was gay.
Holmes said he was driving to the studio to present This Morning when he received a telephone call informing him that Schofield was also coming in – though it was not explained why.
He was told that Willoughby was also coming in, and that they had “something to say”.
“I was thinking, ‘Oh good, hopefully he is going’,” said Holmes.
“But it wasn’t to be. So, anyway, he comes into our dressing room and falls down on his knees crying…the acting is amazing.
“I said to him, ‘What’s the matter?’”
He revealed that Schofield replied, ‘I’m gay, I’m gay!’
“I walked over and I said, ‘Is that all?’ I thought he’d killed a child or something.
“I stood him up, I pulled him up, I said, ‘What are you talking about…so you’re gay’.
“That tied into a lot of things that you may have heard.

Ruth Langsford’s ‘still in touch’ with man Phillip Schofield had affair with[LATEST]
“I think anybody to be tied into a life that isn’t true to them would be totally wrong and we were very supportive, Ruth hugged him and we said, ‘Look, we’ll stand by you’.
“It wouldn’t have entered our minds that the man would be discriminated against because he was gay.”
In a statement released last week, Schofield admitted: “I did have a consensual on-off relationship with a younger male colleague at This Morning.
“Contrary to speculation, whilst I met the man when he was a teenager and was asked to help him to get into television, it was only after he started to work on the show that it became more than just a friendship.
“That relationship was unwise, but not illegal. It is now over.”
The presenter added: “I am painfully conscious that I have lied to my employers at ITV, to my colleagues and friends, to my agents, to the media and therefore the public, and most importantly of all to my family.
“I am so very, very sorry, as I am for having been unfaithful to my wife.”
