Holidaymakers hoping to get away for a late August break have seen plans temporarily placed on hold amid reports of emergency repairs at Edinburgh Airport this morning.
Planes have been forced to hold or divert elsewhere because of emergency “runway repairs”. The travel chaos began just after 8am on August 21, with flights being delayed, held, or landing elsewhere.
Brits have taken to social media to express annoyance with their travel plan delays.
Traveller, Michael Bull, was stuck on a plane waiting to take off, only to be told it will be held on the runway for a least half an hour, as reported in the Mirror. Whereas another plane, only ten minutes out from Edinburgh Airport, was suddenly diverted before landing.

Another holidaymaker, Clare, tweeted her confusion at arriving at a completely different airport to the one she had expected. She wrote on platform X, formerly known as Twitter: “Just diverted to Glasgow 10 mins before due to land @EdiAiport. What’s going on ???”
Aviation enthusiast, Jonathan Winton, noted an EasyJet plane had been diverted to Newcastle Airport amid the chaos.
Flight tracking apps show planes approaching Edinburgh airport were forced to circle above the airport for a while before landing, with flights including Delta and United Airlines unable to land this morning.
Meanwhile, several workers and vehicles were spotted fixing the situation on-site.

According to Edinburgh Airport, flights and operations have now returned to normal, following “emergency repairs”.
Writing on social media, the airport stated: “There was a suspension for a short period while emergency repairs were carried out on the airfield. This has been completed and operations have since resumed, thanks for your patience.”
