An Italian man has called up James O’Brien on LBC had promised to support the England football team against his country in Sunday’s Euro 2020 final. The caller told an astonished James O’Brien that he was supporting Gareth Southgate’s squad because the current team represents everything he stands for. Cristiano told the LBC host that the Three Lions have given him “hope” and won over his loyalties.
Caller Cristiano told LBC: “They wanted to create value out of their position.”
Host James O’Brien pressed the Italian on whether his support of England was genuine and suggest Cristiano would switch to his natural allegiance come match time.
Cristiano replied: “No absolutely not, I promise you.
“The England team] give me hope, James. People like you, people like them.They give me hope.”

He said[: “I stand by everything that they represent. I really want them to win.”
“There is a sense that there is something measurably different about this generation of players and this squad, it’s just a fact isn’t it? They are. Hope and joy.
“They really make me joyful and I support them 100%.
“Not 52-48, 100%.”

The wholesome LBC exchange comes after Italy midfielder Marco Verratti spoke ahead of Sunday’s key clash.
Verratti said: “It’s a dream to win this European Championship and the supporters will factor in somehow.
“Both teams want to win, so we will face a very tough team who will be at home and know the stadium well.
“But we are all professionals and know how it is to play in fan-packed stadiums. It will drive us on as well.

“England are very physical with players who are very skilled. They deserved to get to the final and it will be a difficult match.”
Following England’s stunning 2-1 win over Denmark on Wednesday night, manager Gareth Southgate said his team needed to improve in order to beat Italy.
He said “I felt calm in the lead up to the game because I felt the players, with what they’ve been through, were ready. You’re never 100 per cent sure how they react in difficult moments but we have talked about it and they stayed clam.
“I didn’t think we kept the ball well enough through Denmark’s pressure from the front three and we’re going to have to do that better on Sunday because Italy are very good at it so we need to find better solutions with that.”
