Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly considering moving from their Anmer Hall home on the Sandringham estate and their London Kensington Palace base to Windsor into Adelaide Cottage. However, according to Marie Claire, the Duke of York’s daughter Eugenie is also keen on moving into the newly refurbished cottage with husband Jack Brooksbank, and their 14-month-old son August.

According to Marelene Koeing, a royal historian, the situation is complicated by the fact that Eugenie and her family currently live in Frogmore Cottage on another part of the Berkshire estate.

Writing on Twitter, Ms Koeing noted that Adelaide cottage is “small” indicating that perhaps it would be more suitable for Princess Eugenie with her smaller family.

She also noted that Frogmore Cottage, initially allocated to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex before they moved to the USA, is bigger.

Therefore, the Cambridges might be better suited to Frogmore Cottage, potentially leading to a furious royal feud.

She said: “Adelaide cottage is not a mansion it’s actually quite small.

“Frogmore house is bigger. Jane Roberts’s book royal landscapes describes the cottage in detail.”

A royal insider told The Sun that the Cambridges saw Adelaide Cottage as the “only option”.

They said: “Finding a way to make Adelaide Cottage work seems to be the best and only option.

“There are issues with all the other houses, so Adelaide will be the favourite.”

There has been some speculation that Fort Belvedere, which is also on the Windsor Estate, could also be in the running as the Cambridges’ new home.

However, a royal source told Marie Claire that it would not be “appropriate”.

They said: “It would be neither appropriate nor a good look to spend millions on a private home.”

Another royal source told The Mirror that Eugenie’s interest in moving to Adelaide Cottage could become an “issue”.

They said: “The situation could very well become an issue in the near future.

“The Duke of York has made no secret in the past of his firm held belief that his children should be treated no differently to Princes William and Harry, despite his daughters not being working royals.

“The word is Eugenie is also trying to find somewhere to live and would like to settle in Windsor.”

The situation is complicated further by the fact that if the Duke and Duchess of Sussex return to the UK on a regular basis they will need somewhere to stay with Frogmore Cottage being the ideal base.
