The Duke of Sussex reportedly went into “panic mode” when the Queen spent a night in hospital last week. Harry, who quit royal duties last year for a new life in California, is said to want to travel to Britain for Christmas so the monarch can meet her great-granddaughter Lili, who was born in June, and see her great-grandson Archie again.

A source told Us Weekly that the Duke is “hoping to go back home for Christmas with Meghan, if not before so that she can finally get to meet Lilibet and see Archie again”.

Harry is reportedly in regular contact with the Queen following her hospital stay.

The insider added: “He felt helpless being 5,000 miles away in Montecito and has been checking in non-stop with her.”

The source also claimed Harry still “feels guilty about not saying goodbye” in person to Prince Philip, who died in April.

The insider said: “[He] would never forgive himself if the same thing happened with his beloved grandmother.”

The Queen is usually joined by members of the Royal Family at Sandringham for Christmas.

Reports Harry will return for the festive period come after the monarch spent Wednesday night at King Edward VII’s Hospital last week where she underwent preliminary tests.

It was her first overnight hospital stay in eight years.

She has been carrying out light duties following her return to Windsor Castle last Thursday.

The Queen was forced to cancel a trip to Northern Ireland after being told to rest by doctors, as well as her upcoming appearance at the UN climate change conference Cop26.

She was due to travel to Scotland for the high-profile evening engagement on Monday, but she will now record a video address for delegates.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: “Following advice to rest, the Queen has been undertaking light duties at Windsor Castle.

“Her Majesty has regretfully decided that she will no longer travel to Glasgow to attend the evening reception of Cop26 on Monday, 1st November.

“Her Majesty is disappointed not to attend the reception but will deliver an address to the assembled delegates via a recorded video message.”

The Queen has used a walking stick in recent weeks.

Harry has returned to the UK twice since Megxit – once for the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral in April and again for the unveiling of a Princess Diana statue in July.

The Sussexes quit as working royals in March 2020 and moved to the US.
