Harry and Meghan will ‘struggle to rebrand’ says Schofield
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s plan for the Coronation of King Charles III has reduced the risk of them looking “very foolish” and placing their Sussex brand in a negative light, a Royal Family expert has claimed.
The Duke if Sussex will travel to the UK this weekend to see his father officially crowned but Meghan will remain in California with the couple’s two young children – Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
The reason for this is believed to be because the Duchess of Sussex wanted to spend the day at home with her son on his fourth birthday.
But many royal experts have claimed Harry and Meghan may have been loudly booed by the British public on Saturday following a string of claims the couple have made against the Royal Family in recent months.
Pauline Maclaran, professor of marketing and consumer research at Royal Holloway University, believes Harry attending on his own could be hugely important for the couple’s brand as they “really do need to top up their royal tinsel and glamour”.
She told Express.co.uk: “Had they not come at all, it would have been very difficult for their brand.
“Their whole brand is based on them being royals and although they have been criticising the royals, they also still want to keep their royal titles, they want their children to have them and they are not saying they want to finish with royalty.
“That being said, they are practically nothing without maintaining their royal connections.
“They cornered themselves into quite a difficult position and this has been shown up through this Coronation invite.”

Professor Maclaran added: “If they both go, they both risk looking very foolish if they are met with a lot of hostility and that would be very bad for their brand.
“On the other hand, if they don’t go at all, they are cutting off from the royals even though they still have their titles.
“They really do need to top up their royal tinsel and glamour.
“This is the ideal compromise – Harry comes and they are still reinforcing of their importance in terms of him being the son of the King.
“They are reinforcing their royal connections but limiting their reputational damage through the hostility they will face.”
In addition, the royal and marketing expert warned if Harry and Meghan had attended the Coronation as a “power couple”, they could have received a furious backlash from the British public.
But they have struck the “best compromise” over the attendance issue, and Meghan not making the trip will likely “dilute” any hostility, she suggested.
Professor Maclaran said: “I have previously suggested this would be their best strategy and the best compromise for them.
“If they attended the Coronation as a couple, they would find it very difficult because I think they are likely to be booed. There is a lot of hostile feeling in the UK, particularly since their recent comments.
“They could well expect to be booed as feelings are running high.
“Harry coming on his own will dilute that because although he still runs the risk of maybe facing some hostility, there won’t be nearly as much than if they came as a power couple, which would have attracted much more attention.
“The fact Meghan isn’t coming will dilute the hostility.”
