Prince Harry allegedly remarked Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge was “the sister he never had” years before he quit his Royal Family role as tensions with Prince William spiralled out of control. And the Duke of Sussex is now said to have been key to ensuring Kate Middleton joined the royal folds by talking his brother into reuniting with his girlfriend after a brief breakup, royal author Christopher Andersen claimed. Speaking to Fox News, Mr Andersen suggested the Duke confronted William about the breakdown of the relationship and pushed him into resuming his romance with Kate.

The author said: “Harry was the one who went to William during his six-week break up with Kate Middleton [before they married] and said, ‘What are you doing? Are you crazy? Go back.’

“And he did.

“It took 10 years, but Kate landed her prince and they are a great match.”

Kate and William first met when they both started their university education at St Andrews University in 2001.

The pair only began dating around a year after meeting and shared a flat with coursemates off-campus.

In early 2007, William and Kate were reported to have broken up, with commentators suggesting the young woman had been ready to commit while the royal sought to enjoy his youth and freedom.

The separation however was short-lived as the couple was spotted once again hanging out together in September of the same year, and were inseparable since.

But it would be only in 2010 that Buckingham Palace announced the engagement of the second-in-line to the throne to Kate Middleton.

The pair tied the knot at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011 and became known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge after the Queen gifted William the title hours into the marriage.

Prince Harry served as his older brother’s best man, a position the Duke of Cambridge later himself held when Harry married Meghan Markle in May 2018.

Over the past few years, the Duke of Cambridge and the Duke of Sussex have been dogged by persistent rumours of a split and Harry himself characterised his relationship with his brother as “distance.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down from their working royal roles in March 2020 and moved their family to California.

William and Harry have reunited twice in person since the pair quit, once for the funeral of Prince Philip in April and then in July to unveil a statue commemorating their late mother, Princess Diana.

And this week they each met with recipients of the Diana Awards’ International Legacy Award honouring Diana’s humanitarian work.

The Duke of Cambridge welcomed the winners to Kensington Palace while the Duke of Sussex met them separately on a video call.
