Royal commentators have noted the timing of the end of Prince Harry’s former relationship with Chelsy Davy. This comes after the 10th wedding anniversary of Prince William and Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, was marked around the world. Royally Obsessed podcast host Rachel Bowie explained what state various members of the Royal Family were in at the time of the 2011 event.

She told listeners: “For perspective, here’s what was going on around the time.

“Charles and Camilla had recently celebrated six years of marriage.

“Prince Harry was still in an on-again, off-again relationship with Chelsy Davy.

“They actually broke up right after the wedding.”

Ms Bowie continued: “The Queen and Philip had recently welcomed the Obamas for a successful state visit.

“They had also just celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.

“Philip was about to turn 90 that year.

“Per The Telegraph in December 2011, they said ‘anti-monarchy sentiment is at its lowest since the death of Princess Diana’.”

Prince Harry: Royal was ‘hostile’ after Chelsy Davy says expert

Chelsy was invited to Kate and William’s wedding in April 2010.

The next month, her relationship with the Duke of Sussex officially ended.

Before that point, they had known each other for five years and had broken up at least one time before their eventual parting.

Royal author Katie Nicholl suggested in the past Kate and William’s marriage only cemented Chelsy’s views that Royal Family life “was not for her.”

Ms Nicholl said: “It was just after the royal wedding when she realised she couldn’t cut it.

“She saw what it would be like in the spotlight, and she didn’t want that life for herself. She truly loved Harry, but knew this wasn’t a life she could lead.”

In 2005, while they were dating, Harry gave a frank interview to mark his 21st birthday, speaking about the gossip swirling around: “I suppose that is the media in general, there’s truth and there’s lies.

“Unfortunately I can’t get the truth across because I don’t have my own column in the paper. It does irritate me because I get to see how upset she gets and I know the real her.”

Chelsy also attended Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in 2018.
