Huge fire hits tower block as firefighters race to ‘major incident’

A huge fire has hit a block of flats in Bristol in what has been described as a “major incident”. Firefighters have raced to the scene the deal with the blaze.

Images shared online show a good number of fire engines present at the scene.

Police and the ambulance have also attended to help manage the situation.

Locals have been told to avoid the area while the flames are being handled.

The fire service said in a statement: “We are currently responding to a fire on Aiken Street, St Philips, Bristol.

“Our control team received their first call at 6.08am and have taken a large volume of 999 calls since.

“Please avoid the area as our crews work and be assured we are on the scene.”
