Residents in the town of Hessle, near Hull, are being advised to close all windows and doors following reports of explosions.

Videos shared on social media show thick black smoke billowing into the sky, with local residents currently without power.

Gemma Nesvik, 24, from Hessle, told Metro.co.uk: ‘I heard two massive explosions and the power went out and came back on.

‘More explosions went off and then [I saw] black smoke. We totally lost power.’

She added that she walked to the scene and Thompsons Plastics, a plastics factory in the town, was on fire.

Humberside Fire and Rescue said they are currently attending the incident.

They said: ‘We advise local residents to close windows and doors. Please avoid the Priory Way to A63 area and be mindful there is a large amount of smoke in the area and surrounding roads.’

Hull Live report that a lorry has overturned on the nearby A63, with motorists facing severe delays.
