Justin Trudeau has faced vile social media abuse after announcing a split from his wife Sophie Grégoire.
After ‘many meaningful and difficult conversations’ the pair – married 18 years- have ‘made the decision to separate.’
A wave of abusive comments have already appeared below Trudeau’s statement, which he made on Instagram.
One user wrote: ‘How can you lead a country when you can’t lead your own family? Please divorce us.’
Another added: ‘Separate from Canada please.’

Grégoire first met Trudeau, the eldest son of Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, when the pair were growing up in Montreal.
She was a classmate and childhood friend of the youngest Trudeau son, Michel.
The pair reconnected as adults at an event in 2003, and were engaged the following year and wed in May 2005.
On May 29, 2021, Grégoire paid tribute to her husband with a post on Instagram to mark their 16-year wedding anniversary.
She wrote: ‘Oh, my beloved “Just”… 18 years of sharing our life paths (16 years married today!) and what an adventure it has been.
‘We have loved each other through it all and that love knows no limits…’
