Prince George, eight, is heading into Year Four and his sister, Princess Charlotte, six, will be starting Year Two this September. Both attend the prestigious Thomas’s Battersea school in southwest London.
Meanwhile, their younger brother, Prince Louis, three, will continue at Willcocks Nursery School after joining last April.
The Cambridge family enjoyed the six-week summer holiday and embarked on trips to the Isles of Scilly and the Queen’s Balmoral Estate.
Kate and William, like many parents across the country, will have to complete the annual school uniform shop.
Prince George, who wears a smart navy uniform at his junior school, is thought to have outgrown his shirts from last year.
A royal insider said: “George has grown quite a lot over the summer.
“So a new order will likely go into Perry’s, the Knightsbridge school outfitters, for some larger items as he’s gone up a size.”
George and Charlotte are said to be very popular amongst their classmates and regularly meet up with friends after school.
A royal source said there was “never a shortage” of classmates coming around the house after lessons, with Kate and William keen to ensure a relatively normal upbringing as possible.
The source added: “George might be a future king but for now he’s just another little boy.
“They are always at great pains to make sure the three of them have as normal a childhood as possible.”
William and especially Kate are also keen advocates of building relations with other parents on school-run.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have over the years been willing to embrace the parenting experience by taking part in fundraising events and even sports days.
A royal insider added: “As parents [Kate and William] are also very good at rolling up their sleeves and helping out with school events; sports days, fundraisers and that sort of thing.
“They try to be just like normal parents with normal parenting challenges.
“Kate and William are also very, very supportive of the staff.”

Prince George may be third-in-line to the throne but at school he is simply known as George Cambridge.
His sister also follows suit and is down on the register as Charlotte Cambridge.
The tradition was also used by their father who was known as William Wales – a nod to Prince Charles’ title as the Prince of Wales.
