The Duchess beat out other prominent royal women in a comparison of how many hashtags royal racked up on Instagram. As a result, Kate has been crowned the most Instagrammable royal woman ever, according to new research into social media trends.

In the coupled-up ranking, the Duke and Duchess generated 2.2 million hashtags between them.

However, Kate outstripped her husband in the Instagram polls, generating 1.3 million hashtags on her own.

Although Prince Harry and Meghan Markle pulled away from the Cambridges for couple results, the Duchess of Cambridge came out on top of all other senior female royals.

Photography experts Printique, looking at Instagram hashtags for 24 of the most popular royal couples globally, pulling up results for not just the Sussexes and Cambridges, but other loved-up royals.

Among the other royals ranked were Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, as well as Prince Charles with both the late Princess Diana and the Duchess of Cornwall.

Instagram has become an increasingly popular platform utilised by members of the Royal Family to reach their fans and promote causes close to their hearts.

A spokesperson for Printique commented on the findings, saying: “Royal couples are a source of fascination all over the world, and this data shows just how much online influence they can command.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex cultivated a large and dedicated fanbase through their Instagram account, @SussexRoyal, which reached 10 million followers.

This account, however, has been inactive since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back from their duties as working royals in March 2020.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have stormed past this number, now clocking 13.2 million Instagram followers and regular updates about the Cambridges shared via social media.

They most recently posted an adorable family portrait, set to appear on the family’s Christmas card this year.

They posted the photo of the Cambridges smiling widely and gathered together last week, saying they were “delighted to share a new image of the family” with royal fans.

They also use the Instagram account to publicise royal engagements, such as the festive carol service hosted by the Duchess of Cambridge at Westminster Abbey last week.

The caption on the images of the Duke and Duchess at the service detailed how the celebration was one attended “by inspirational people who have gone the extra mile for their community in recent times”.

It has also been a vessel for the future king, 39, to promote awareness about mental health, and the importance of having productive conversations around mental illness.

The Duke recently appeared on an episode of TimeToWalk, a wellbeing podcast from Apple Fitness+, in which he talked candidly about his family and his routine to stay balanced.

It also featured multiple posts on behalf of the Duchess of Cambridge around promoting early years education and giving children the best start possible in life – a cause close to the Duchess’s heart.

The Duke and Duchess used the account extensively during the autumn and early winter to raise the profile of their climate change action campaigning.

They posted multiple updates from the COP26 climate change conference, at which Prince William delivered an impassioned speech to world leaders, urging them to “make the impossible, possible”.

Shots from the inaugural Earthshot Awards in November, spearheaded by Prince William to award the most innovative of climate change solutions across the world, were also splashed on the Cambridges’ Instagram page.

It also offered the royal couple the opportunity to share a glimpse at a more intimate side to their relationship, uploading backstage photos of the pair which royal fans may not always see.
