Prince Philip was seen off by 30 of his close family members on Saturday afternoon, and many more watching on TV at home. Windsor Castle was shrouded in military performance as various branches of the British Armed Forces paid their respects with intricate and complicated routines. Among the Royal Family in attendance was Harry, who had flown from the US last weekend in order to make the ceremony.
It was the first time he had met with members of the Firm since his and Meghan’s tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Here, the pair revealed various intimacies about the royals as well as the struggles they had faced in the family since their 2018 wedding.
As a result, fears were rife that the event would be brimming with tension.
Yet, Kate, Harry’s sister-in-law, was seen as the bridge between the two brothers during the funeral’s procession.
The Duchess appeared to play peacemaker and started chatting with Harry as the mourners left St George’s Chapel, then bringing William into the conversation.
Shortly after this, footage showed the two brothers walking side by side while Kate walked along with them, continuing their chat for several minutes.
Many have noted that this is a far cry from Kate’s usual “guarded” personality, one of the reasons why she and Meghan did not meet for months, it was claimed.
The pair never went on to become best friends nor enemies during their time together working in the Royal Family, they were just colleagues.

Royal authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand explored Kate’s “guarded” approach to friendship in their book, ‘Finding Freedom’, noting how the first time Meghan and Kate met set a precedent for their future relationship.
Meghan and Harry visited apartment 1A – Kate and William’s home – in late 2016, but the Duchess was not there.
The authors: “Meghan was disappointed she didn’t get to meet Kate… But having got along so well with Harry’s brother, she didn’t think much more about that.”

Their first and long-awaited meeting came shortly after Meghan and Harry returned from their secret New Year’s trip to Tromsö.
On January 10, 2017, they visited Apartment 1A, where Meghan was introduced to Kate in a “brief” meeting, according to the authors.
The authors added that up until that point, “Kate had seemingly not shown much interest” in finding out who Harry’s girlfriend was.
A friend told them that it was nothing personal against Meghan, as Kate “is an extremely guarded person”.
Kate has a tight friendship group, they wrote, and is careful about letting new people in.
The friends she has now “are for the most part the same ones she had on her wedding day”.
