Kate Middleton comically scores her homeschooling maths skills

Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge took the opportunity to poke fun at herself in her latest virtual engagement. The royal had been speaking with a group of parents whose children study at Roe Green Junior School in London about parenting during the pandemic. Kate has been open during the multiple lockdowns about her and Prince William’s struggles with homeschooling Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

In the call, the headteacher of the school asked the group: “Out of 10, how do you rate your Maths ability after several months of homeschooling?”

The Duchess could be seen chuckling at the question as they all wrote down their scores on paper.

When it was time to reveal the numbers, Kate’s paper showed she had awarded herself minus five.

The host burst out into laughter at the royal’s poor performance.

Kate also laughed, looking at everyone else’s scores, which were all eights.

The Duchess joked: “I’m obviously right at the bottom!”

The headteacher also asked everyone who had been the “greatest support” to them during the pandemic.

Kate wrote down that it was her husband, William.

Both Prince George and Princess Charlotte have seen their schooling disrupted because of the pandemic and have spent most of the year learning from home with the help of mum Kate and dad William.

The Duchess also praised the group for their dedication, saying: “It’s been great to hear about all these positive elements despite all of the challenges that are facing us, whether that’s feeling a lot more hectic or pushed.

“It’s nice to know that there’s hope and lots that we’ve also learnt.

“Make sure everyone looks after themselves, that’s what’s important.”

Vanity Fair Royal Editor Katie Nicholl also spoke to OK Magazine about the Cambridge family’s approach to homeschooling.

She said: “Kate is aware of screen time and tries to limit the children being exposed too much.

“When the children have a break, she takes them outside, come rain or shine.

“She wants them to get fresh air and be in nature. She loves to pick vegetables with them in the gardens.

“If they are learning about rivers or the sea, she and William try to incorporate that into their walks.”
