On top of being the fourth most popular royal, according to a YouGov poll, the Duchess of Cambridge’s influence on the Royal Family is massive, according to royal expert Camilla Tominey. “This is often overlooked, but she is arguably the most powerful person in the royal family,” Tominey said in a video for The Telegraph, “because she is the wife of a future King and the mother of a future King.”
“When it comes to their generation, you could say [Kate and Prince William] are ruling the royal roost,” Tominey said.
Indeed, Prince George will one day be ruling as King according to the protocol, while Princess Charlotte could become the new Princess Royal after Anne.
Kate Middleton’s recent work has also made her more likeable to the public, according to royal author Katie Nicholl.
“I think some people might say that the lockdown that we’ve experienced here—well, three of them—in many ways was the unlocking of Kate,” she told 60 Minutes Australia.
“I think that the public got to see more of the true duchess than they’ve ever been able to see before.”
Prince William and Kate have stepped up their royal engagement schedule recently as the Queen has been advised to rest for a while.
This, according to royal expert Katie Nicholl, is part of two “roles” Kate must fulfil ahead of being a future Queen consort.
Ms Nicholl told the 2017 documentary ‘Kate: The Making of a Future Queen’: “There are two roles for future Queens.
“One is to produce heirs, which she has done, and one is to learn how to one day become Queen.
“And that is very much what we are seeing.
“We are seeing a Queen in waiting.
“We are seeing the Duchess take on more duties, more royal engagements, more of a public profile than ever before.”

William and Kate are taking on patronages from the Queen, and also from Prince Philip before he died.
This is a “very deliberate” move, Ms Nicholl claimed.
She said it is “very much a part of the palace machine bringing her from the shadows of Anmer Hall into the forefront, into the spotlight, because they’re very clever.”
