A local pub landlord was forced to apologise to the Queen after making a mistake during Kate and Prince William’s royal wedding. John Haley, the owner of The Old Boot Inn in the village where the Duchess of Cambridge grew up, had been speaking to ITV’s Lorraine about the upcoming 10-year anniversary. Mr Haley, who was invited to the Westminster Abbey ceremony, said he got into trouble with the Queen.

He told viewers: “I remember when Kate and William were coming down the aisle.

“They’d finished and they’d got married.

“They were walking towards the door so I was watching them right through.

“I was the only one watching them.”

Mr Haley continued: “Then I realised everyone was looking right.

“As I looked right, there was the Queen two or three feet from me.

“She was staring right at me because I was looking the wrong way.

“So I was like, ‘sorry ma’am’. It was quite funny actually.”

Replacement host Cat Deeley burst into laughter at the story.

She also joked that it must have been a “good apology because she didn’t say ‘off with his head”.

The pub landlord added that he “wasn’t sent to the Tower”.
