Kate’s uncle has said the royal is “trying to mediate” and bring peace between William and Harry, after months of tumultuous relations. Gary Goldsmith, brother to Kate’s mother Carole Middleton, said his niece is a “brilliant arbiter and peacemaker”, and so is perfectly suited to unite the brothers.

Mr Goldsmith said the recent comments by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been upsetting for Kate and William.

The recruitment consultant also gave his own opinion on Harry’s recent disparaging comments, which has seen him claim his brother and father are “trapped” in the Royal Family and criticise his royal upbringing.

He told Closer magazine: “Everyone is astonished.

“He wanted to step back and protect his wife, now he’s charging in.

“It’s an attack on the family – why do it?

“If you want an easy life, work it out privately and have a conversation respectfully.

“Don’t air it in public, it’s really hurtful.”

Kate’s uncle warned if Harry doesn’t start to reign in his public condemnation of the Royal Family, he will be unable to heal relations with his family.

He said: “The harsh truth – in my opinion – is that if Harry doesn’t get a grip and stop this self-indulgent episode, there will soon be no common ground or relationship to rebuild.

“But if anyone can bring peace to the royals, Kate can.

“Kate is a brilliant arbiter and peacemaker.

“Every bone in her body is about making friends and doing the best she can… She’s trying to mediate.”

Kate and William have not escaped the public comments made by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in recent months.

During their tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan Markle sought to set the record straight about a dispute between her and Kate in the lead up to her May 2018 wedding.

The Duchess of Sussex claimed Kate had made her cry during a disagreement about bridesmaids dresses and had later apologised for the heated exchange.

It had previously been reported that Meghan had made Kate cry.

Harry also claimed Prince Charles and Prince William are “trapped” by the institution.

He told Oprah: “I am part of the system with them, I always have been, but I guess — and I’m very aware of this — my brother can’t leave that system, but I have.

“My father and my brother are trapped. They don’t get to leave, and I have huge compassion for that.”

Royal expert Robert Jobson told Express.co.uk the “trapped” comment was one of the most damaging of the entire interview.
