Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, is “the glue” holding the Royal Family together, according to a commentator. The future queen consort is said to be “stepping into” the peacemaker void left behind by Prince Philip. Vanity Fair Royal Editor Katie Nicholl spoke to 60 Minutes Australia about the pair’s similarities.

Host Tom Steinfort said: “Kate’s standing in the Royal Family has now come so far that many believe she is their biggest asset.”

Ms Nicholl told viewers: “I think Kate is the glue.

“In the same way that the Duke of Edinburgh was always the one who would help resolve family issues.

“He was the patriarch of the family.”

She added: “I see Kate stepping into that role.

“Trying to keep things together.”

The Duchess was said to have been playing a ‘peacemaker’ role at the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral.

She was instrumental in allowing Prince Harry and Prince William to speak.

Prince Charles was ‘rocked’ by loss of Prince Philip says expert

It was the first time the Duke of Sussex had seen his family in person since he and Meghan Markle left the UK last year.

Although social distancing was observed in the chapel and the procession, the three younger royals were spotted on camera walking and talking together after the service.

Kate was thought to have brought this about by being the first to speak to Harry.

Royally Us podcast host Christina Garibaldi explained what happened.

She told listeners: “It was nice to see them kind of come together.

“I know some people have been saying that Kate was the one that eased that tension.

“She was the one that initiated, or at least from what we saw, initiated the conversation with Harry.

“The three of them have been close for so many years so it was nice to see them, the Three Musketeers back together again.”
