The Duchess of Cambridge has opened up about an activity that she “shares” with her family during one of her latest engagements. Kate had been visiting the London Natural History Museum to hear about the organisation’s Urban Nature Project. HeirPod host and ABC royal contributor Omid Scobie explained how Pippa and Kate’s brother, James Middleton, was connected to her hobby.

He told listeners: “During her visit, Kate joined a group of local schoolchildren in some nature activities, including arts and crafts and interactive storytelling.

“She also brought her own special gifts for the kids from Anmer Hall.

“A pot of honey from their home in Norfolk.

“She said it came specially from her beehive.”

Mr Scobie continued: “That revealed one of the many hobbies that she shares with her children.

“After giving each child a spoon, she asked if it tasted the same as the honey from the shops.

“She said every time you see a bee, say thank you so much because they make delicious honey.

“Kate is not actually the only Middleton to engage in beekeeping.”

The host added: “Her brother, James Middleton, has been a beekeeper for over a decade.

“So I’m sure she is not short of places to turn for advice.

“In fact, last year he wrote an essay about the hobby, sharing that he now has half a million bees in eight hives at his manor in Berkshire.”

Mr Middleton wrote about his love of bees in a 2020 Daily Mail article.

He even revealed that his family had “clubbed together to buy…the most fantastic birthday gift imaginable”.

He wrote: “A delivery van arrived with a large buzzing box with the cautionary label: ‘Live Bees.’ Inside was the nucleus—the start—of my colony: 1,000 Buckfast bees.

“I’d always harbored a longing to keep bees, but it wasn’t until I turned 24 in 2011 that the wish became reality.”

Now James shares his passion with his fiancée, Alizee Thevenet.
