Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge “had so much fun” with taking pictures of Prince Louis for his birthday, according to royal commentators. The youngest Cambridge child turned three years old on April 23, and had a new portrait released, taken by his mother. Royal author Elizabeth Holmes spoke to the Royally Obsessed podcast about why the future queen consort was able to take a different approach than with her other children.

Ms Holmes told listeners: “I think Kate’s had so much fun with his birthday portraits.

“I think it’s just reflective that she can.

“By the time you’re parenting a third, you let go of a lot of stuff.

“Also because of where he falls in the family.”

She added: “She can do that, and I love it.”

Host Rachel Bowie spoke more about the picture, and the bicycle that Louis is on.

She told the podcast: “I feel like that bike looks huge, I don’t know why. I just feel like he looks so grown-up.”

Ms Holmes answered: “It’s a balance bike, there are no pedals. So he can just sort of zoom around.

Prince Louis: New photo released by royals to mark third birthday

“There aren’t pedals so it’s not like he has to balance.”

The author continued: “But it’s a perfect sort of introduction to a bike. It’s very in-vogue with parents right now.”

Louis celebrated his birthday two days after his great-grandmother the Queen turner 95 on April 21.

Due to Prince Philip’s recent funeral, the monarch did not mark the occasion with the usual fanfare but shared a message to the public to thank them for the support shown to her and the Royal Family at their time of grief.
